You did not become a teacher to spend your evenings doom-scrolling, your weekends grading, and your Sundays dreading Monday morning. But here you are.

The students in today’s classrooms are not the ones teachers were trained to reach. They are hands-on, visual, and desperate for purpose. They have the attention span of a social media scroll, and no amount of lecturing, pleading, or punishing seems to make a difference.

You have tried the strategies your colleagues swear by. You have implemented the latest initiatives. You have worked harder than ever, and still feel like you are falling further behind.

Here is the truth no one tells you: You are not the problem. The playbook is.

Real solutions. Real classrooms. No theory.

This book was built from years of working with teachers across 18 countries, watching what actually moves the needle across wildly different school environments. The same strategies that work in a high-performing suburban school work in a Title I CTE school because they are built around how students actually learn.

01

Why student-centered learning keeps failing teachers

And the one missing piece that makes it actually work without losing control of your classroom.

02

The real reason your students are disengaged

And what you can do about it tomorrow morning without overhauling your entire curriculum.

03

How to give meaningful choice while keeping structure

Practical frameworks for student autonomy that do not sacrifice accountability.

04

A time audit that will change everything

See exactly where your energy is going and learn how to take some of it back before September.

05

Five proven strategies to beat burnout for good

Reverse apathy, rebuild relationships with students, and walk into next year with a real plan.

This book was written for the teacher who…

  • Is spending the summer recovering from last year while dreading next year
  • Has tried the strategies everyone recommends and they have not worked
  • Is skeptical of anyone telling them what to do who is not actively in a classroom
  • Is a good teacher who is exhausted, not a bad teacher who needs fixing
  • Wants real solutions, not toxic positivity or one-size-fits-all mandates
  • Is in their second year or their twentieth, elementary or high school

Early readers have spoken

This is exactly the book teachers need right now to reignite their passion and avoid burnout. Packed with actionable tips and practical engagement strategies, it allows educators to dive in and make meaningful changes in their classrooms immediately. It is a must-read that will truly transform how teachers teach and, ultimately, how they impact their students.

— Amber S., 7-12 math teacher, Arizona

“It’s not a deep academic book, but it is an amazing survival guide for the classroom. The practical tips help put the workload of learning back on the students, so that teachers can save their sanity.”

— A. C., Grades 1-9 Spanish as a Mother Tongue, Sweden

A breath of fresh air to teaching! It is practical – jammed-packed and on point. It is versatile – any classroom setting. It is insightful, reflective, and thought-provoking. It is relevant – teaching in 2026 is different, and we need to pivot! It makes sense – it is a life teacher saver!

— Suzie M, Primary School, NSW, Australia
Jenn Breisacher

Jenn Breisacher

Jenn started teaching high school history in 2007. Like most new teachers, she was told to stand at the front of the room and lecture. Spoiler alert: it did not work.

After five years of trial, error, and genuine breakthroughs across two very different New Jersey schools, she built a student-centered framework that worked consistently regardless of demographics, funding, or grade level. In 2018 she founded Student-Centered World and has been training teachers ever since.

She has worked with teachers in 18 countries, been featured in Business Insider as one of six educational startups making a real difference during the pandemic, and built a community of educators who refuse to give up on their students or themselves.

Jenn Breisacher built a student-centered framework that worked consistently across every type of classroom she taught in. In 2018 she shifted her focus from teaching students to teaching teachers, sharing those methods directly with educators, and evolving them alongside the people using them every day. That ongoing conversation with teachers around the world is what keeps this work relevant, practical, and genuinely universal. Teaching When You Have Nothing Left is her second book.

I am skeptical. I have read books like this before and they have not helped.

That is a completely fair concern and honestly one Jenn hears all the time. This book is not built on one person’s classroom experience. It is built on years of cross-referencing what is working across thousands of teachers in 18 countries. If the other books did not help, this one is specifically written for you.

About the Author: Jenn Breisacher

Jenn began teaching high school history in 2007. After moving from a teacher-dominated classroom to a truly student-centered one, she found herself helping colleagues who wanted to follow her lead. In 2018, she decided to expand beyond her school walls and help others who were also trying to figure out this fantastic method of instruction to ignite intrinsic motivation in their students. She launched Student Centered World at the urging of her colleagues.Fast forward to today, she has a unique perspective not many educators share. Since the start of the pandemic, she has worked with teachers from diverse backgrounds to identify what works in the classroom and what needs to be left behind. She’s shared strategies from rural Nebraska that have also succeeded in the Bronx. Together, they’ve experimented, refined, and evolved as a community. The student apathy crisis is real. If you’re still teaching like it’s pre-2020, you’ll find yourself frustrated...fast. Jenn is here to help you work your way through it.
